Triton Basketball: Bi-County Offers Mixed Results

ARGOS — The Bi-County Tournament kicked-off Tuesday night with Triton taking on Argos in both boys and girls hoops action. The boys enjoyed a 43-37 win while the girls suffered a 37-29 defeat against the No. 2 ranked Dragons.

In the boys game Argos took an 18-16 lead in the locker room but the Trojans came out fired up in the third quarter. Triton outscored the Dragons 17-2 in the frame and held off a comeback in the fourth to hang on for victory. Zac Pitney led Triton with 22 points while Grant Johnson added 11. Argos was led by Drew Bollenbacher and Vincent Stone who tallied 13 points each.

The girls trailed 14-5 after one and 22-13 at the break. A strong third quarter led the Trojans trailing just 25-23 going into the fourth, but the second-ranked Dragons avoided disaster by outscoring Triton 12-6 in the fourth. Triton’s Hannah Wanemacher led all scorers with 19 points while Argos was led by Macee Strycker’s 18-point outing.

Argos plays Bremen Thursday in the first semifinal at LaVille. John Glenn and Oregon-Davis will play in the second semifinal. Triton (6-13) plays Culver at LaVille on Thursday in the consolation round at 6:30 p.m.

Triton’s boys improve to 8-4 overall and will play Bremen in the semifinal at LaVille on Friday, also at 6:30. New Prairie and LaVille will play in the second semifinal at 8 p.m.
