WAKARUSA — Michael Thorn, 60, Warsaw, was not injured in a four-vehicle accident Tuesday, Nov. 22, on SR 19, north of CR 32, north of Wakarusa. The accident closed SR 19 for several hours.

Larry Sawyer, 81, Elkhart, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for broken ribs. Kerry Rohrer, 80, Elkhart, was flown by Medflight air ambulance to Memorial Hospital for multiple injuries, including head, neck and torso.

Deputies with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reported Sawyer was southbound on SR 19, north of CR 32 behind Rohrer’s vehicle. Thorn and Ronald Hayes, 64, Elkhart, were both northbound on SR 19. Sawyer’s vehicle struck the back of the Rohrer vehicle.

After impact, Rohrer’s vehicle entered the northbound lane of SR 19 into the path of Thorn’s vehicle. Thorn swerved and went off the east side of the roadway, over-corrected his vehicle. The vehicle reentered the northbound lane coming to rest off the east side of the roadway. Hayes’ vehicle was struck by the Thorn vehicle.
