Abernethy Set To Help At Basketball Camp
WINONA LAKE – Agaitas will be providing a free basketball camp this Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Grace College Rec Center. Special guest at the camp will be former Indiana University basketball star Tom Abernethy.
Abernethy played on the 1976 Indiana University basketball team that won the national championship, still the last college basketball team to finish a season undefeated. Abernethy was drafted into the NBA by the LA Lakers and also spent time with the Golden State Warriors and the Indiana Pacers.
Agaitas is a local sports ministry organization that started in the summer of 2012, using its passion for Christ and soccer to provide a free soccer camp to kids in the community. This camp originally had two goals, to reach out to families that might not be able to afford to go to any other summer camps and to use the gifts that we were blessed with to impact the community for Christ.
Agaitas has grown from being just a soccer camp to becoming a multi-sport ministry to the community. It has also evolved our first goal to having kids from all walks of life, social status, backgrounds, and nationalities come together. The second goal has stayed the same, each day we are using the gifts that we were blessed with to impact the community for Christ.
This year, Agaitas soccer camp had 160 campers and over 60 counselors, and ran its second baseball camp, and are currently running a basketball camp for over 120 campers.
