WARSAW — During a busy First Friday, a group gathered around the memorial at the Kosciusko County Courthouse to witness the official unveiling of the Walk-n-Wander statues.

Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer, Paulette Davis, Suzie Light and Julie Parke of the Warsaw Public Arts Commission gathered for the occasion. A black cloth was placed over the Abraham Lincoln sculpture, which has already become known around town over the past week.

The Walk-n-Wander series features 20 all-new sculptures by artist Seward Johnson. Situated throughout Warsaw’s downtown and at Central Park, the statues depict people engaging in various everyday activities — taking photos, eating, meeting, reading the news, playing, even delivering the mail.

Thallemer issued a challenge, inviting everyone to pose for photos and selfies with the sculptures throughout the week, then posting them to the city’s Facebook page. The top two photos will receive tickets to an upcoming concert, including reserved seating and reserved parking.

They will remain on display through Sept. 29 and will be there to welcome the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay, which comes through Warsaw.

It took approximately 60 local donors to bring the sculptures for the summer. Through the Artfully Warsaw Fund, the Warsaw Public Arts Commission hopes to bring some permanent art pieces to the downtown area.
