Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Investigating Death

BENTON — Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause of the death of 82-year-old Lyle Burtsfield, found deceased in the water along the banks of the Elkhart River. Burtsfield resided near the river.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department was called at 1:59 p.m. Thursday, June 2, to 15902 CR 44 to investigate the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing and the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy today, Friday, June 3, to help determine the cause of death.

According to Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Capt. James L. Bradberry it is early in the investigation and additional details to be released will be determined at a later time.
