BREMEN — Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently announced the reclassification of Master Trooper Mike Gruett to the position of detective.

Most notably, Gruett received a Bronze Star from the department in 1995 for his part in the heroic rescue of a woman involved in a car crash in Kosciusko County.

Gruett earned his assignment to field investigations through completion of written testing and a competitive interview process. Gruett will primarily be responsible for cases in Marshall County.

Gruett, a 30-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, graduated from Lake Station High School and later attended Calumet College, where he earned a certificate in criminal justice. Gruett graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in 1985 and was assigned to the Bremen post.

While at Bremen, he has worked as a trooper and spent several months over the years on temporary duty assignment as a detective. During this time, Gruett has also served on the tactical intervention platoon, SWAT and as a field training officer.

Gruett has made Marshall County his home since 1985.  Detective Gruett resides in Plymouth with his wife and their daughter.
