Dorothy-SimpsonDorothy (Everest) Simpson, 98, Goshen, formerly of Elkhart, died 2:36 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at her residence. She was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Cass County, Mich., to Ralph and Gladys (Stark) Everest.

She married Alan Simpson on Sept. 1, 1939 and he died Oct. 25, 1998.

Surviving are daughters: Wanda Jean (Richard) Hirschler, Goshen; Diana (Jack) Harley, Ocala, Fla.; sons: Roger A. (Patricia) Simpson, Elkhart; James W. (Jane) Simpson, New Paris; sister: Wanda (Carl Owen) Stump, Goshen; brothers: George (Daphne) Everest, Goshen; Dean (Lorita) Everest, New Paris; sisters-in-law: Lois Everest; Joan Everest; and Laurel Everest, all of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; brothers: Thane; Boyd and Bruce (twins); Kenneth; L. Ned; and Herbert Everest.

Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of New Paris High School, a homemaker, avid gardener, seamstress and volunteered at Greencroft. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Elkhart, where she was a member for 60+ years and taught Sunday School and worked in Women’s Work.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Friday, March 18, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Michigan St., Elkhart. Pastor Keith McFarren will officiate. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethel United Methodist Church.
