Paul J. “Tubby” Sherk, 89, of Bremen, passed away peacefully at midnight, Friday, March 11, 2016, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
Tubby was born on July 16, 1926, the son of the late Paul W. and Edna (Balsley) Sherk.
On Aug. 1, 1947, in Bremen, he married Fern Hummel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years: Fern; daughter: Diana (James) Pecsi of Nappanee; granddaughter: Roxanne (Keith) Miller of Bremen; and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Paul. He is also survived by five siblings: Shirley Stine of Bremen, William Sherk of Bremen, Geneva Abbiehl of Mishawaka, Ronnie (Sue) Sherk of Plymouth, and Lester Sherk of Mishawaka; brother in law: Owen Balsley of Bremen; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Balsley.
Tubby proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army before his honorable discharge in 1946. He was part owner/vice president of Miller Bearing before his retirement in 1988.
He will be remembered for his love of farming, snowmobiling, camping, attending antique gas engine shows and fishing trips to Canada with his grandsons.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Monday, March 14, in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 SR 331. Bremen. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, in Bremen United Methodist Church, 302 Plymouth St., Bremen, with one hour of visitation prior. Pastor Chuck Krieg will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with full military honors.
