NORTH JUDSON – Triton girls basketball coach Adam Heckaman noted after his team laid claim to at least a share of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference at Culver two weeks ago that he teaches sharing to his children. But Friday night, Heckaman and his Lady Trojans were in no mood to be civil with North Judson.

In the final HNAC game of the season, Triton bested North Judson 38-31 to take the league title outright, handing Judson its second loss in conference. Triton finished the inaugural conference season 8-0.

In a painfully low scoring first half, Triton led just 11-9 at the half, but would force the issue in the second half. The Trojans outscored the Blue Jays 14-8 in the third quarter and didn’t trail at any point in the final eight minutes in claiming the crown.

Hannah Wanemacher and Charlotte Morris were huge for Triton, with Wanemacher scoring 14 points aided by 6-6 from the free throw line. Morris came through with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Jaela Meister added four points, six boards, four assists and three steals for the Trojans.

Morgan Schumacher led the Blue Jays with 17 points and five rebounds.

The JV conference title also went to Triton in a thrilling 40-33 double overtime win against North Judson. A three from Sara Stevens kept Triton alive in the first overtime, and the Lady Trojans pulled away in the second bonus period.

Kaitlin Bailey scored 14 points to lead Triton, and Megan McFarland was right behind with 12 points. Two McFarland free throws sent the game into overtime. Abby Timm led the Blue Jays with nine points while Madeline Schumacher and Casey Korniak each finished with six points.

North Judson (11-9) will have the toughest task in the Class 2-A state tournament next week, having to face No. 1 Oregon-Davis in its first game of the Hebron Sectional Wednesday night.

Triton (10-12) will play North Miami in the second game Tuesday night at the Class 1-A Culver Sectional. Argos and Culver play in the first game, slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
