BOURBON – It wasn’t a full house, but the house party will still carry on well into the night.

Triton continued its solid 2015-16 wrestling campaign with a team championship at the inaugural Hoosier North Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships Saturday hosted by Triton. The Trojans claimed two class championships and one second-place finish en route to a 256 point total, 17 ahead of runner-up West Central and 27.5 up on nemesis LaVille.
The Trojans got a pair of championship days from Malachi Greene at 120 and Gage Waddle at 160. Greene worked over LaVille’s Nick Felke for a pin at 5:33 while Waddle scored a key pin of West Central’s Trentin Watts in the final of that bracket.
Bryce Swihart claimed second in the 113-pound class, losing the final by a 3-1 decision to Caston’s Jake Maroney.
Triton had Adonic Salinas at 126, Nick Harker at 152, Vince Helton at 170, John Salinas at 182 and Ryan Horne at 285 all take third place and none of the Trojans finished below fifth in any bracket.

The tournament itself featured several light brackets due to several teams not filling weight classes with able bodies. Triton and LaVille were the only two teams to fill each weight class, West Central and Knox had 13 of the the 14 classes covered. Knox finished fourth in the tournament with 220 points.
The win redeemed Triton in a sense after losing the regular season HNAC crown to LaVille, to where the Lancers beat the Trojans head-to-head and also got the Trojans at the Knox Super Duals.
Triton will look to refine its product for next Saturday’s Plymouth Sectional, where the Trojans will be one of 10 teams competing to send individuals along in the state tournament. Action at Plymouth is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
