WASHINGTON D.C. — Several Hoosier colleges and universities are featured in the annual list of 300 best values in colleges and universities from “Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.” The University of Notre Dame leads the state in the “All Colleges” category at 46. DePauw was listed as the state’s top-ranked Liberal Arts College.

Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., was ranked number one overall. The top five is rounded out by Princeton University, Harvard University, Davidson College and Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.

Also on the list is DePauw University (89), Purdue University (145), Earlham College (158), Goshen College (161), Butler University (166), Wabash College (223), Hanover College (260), Valparaiso University (268), University of Evansville (277), and Indiana University (280).

“Kiplinger’s” says the rankings are based on a mix of quality measures, including admission rates and test scores of incoming students, and costs for out-of-state students.

The magazine also ranked the best values in 100 private universities, a list that includes Notre Dame (16), Butler University (50), Valparaiso (84) and Evansville (90). The public universities list includes Purdue (19) and IU (44), DePauw leads the state in the Liberal Arts Colleges list at 48, followed by Earlham (72), Goshen (74) and Wabash (91).
