WARSAW — A mother distraught that her children had been taken from her, threatened to harm herself and was taken to the hospital where she spit in the face of a nurse. She has been arrested on a charge of battery by bodily waste, a level 6 felony.

Raleen Kay Hyde, 29, East US 30, Pierceton, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:29 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.

Court documents show on Sept. 9, Warsaw Police responded to a domestic battery at Deluxe Inn, Warsaw. Police spoke with Richard Howard, who reported getting into an argument with his wife, Rayleen Hyde, over the children she had left in the area. Hyde stated she had gone to the office of the hotel to get another room key.

Child Protective Services were contacted and they advised Hyde they were taking the children from her and giving them to Howard. Hyde became upset and began making threats of harming and/or killing herself. Police stated they would be transporting her to Bowen Center for treatment at which time she resisted police who had to forcibly place her on the ground to control her. During the transport to Bowen Center she attempted to kick the windows out of the police cruiser. She then told police she needed medical attention.

Hyde was forcibly taken into the emergency room at KCH. In the emergency room a nurse attempted to assist Hyde into bed at which time she spit on the nurse’s face.

She is being held on $5,000 surety and $250 cash.
