Mentone Approves Construction Of New Storage Shed
Mentone held its monthly town council meeting Monday evening. During the meeting the board approved the construction of a storage structure, as well as addressing issues for the street department.
The council unanimously approved the construction of a pole building. The shed will cost approximately $42,000. The council heard two quotes and decided to go with Ramco. According to Josh Shepard of the street department, the building is slightly over the $40,000 budget currently set.
Though Ramco will place gutters, a drain and a larger approach than the rival bid, Shepard noted the quote did not include a seam mat. For an additional $8,000, Shepard noted the company could install the mat, with the funds coming from the storm and sewer fund. A total of $10,000 will be utilized from this fund to pay for the building.
The second quote, which was received from Burns Post Building, was $5,000 less than the Ramco quote but offered less features to the structure.
After receiving approval from the board, Shepard said he hopes to install electricity in the shed next year. The building will measure 40x64x14 feet.
Other issues were addressed in the meeting including the yard waste problem. Shepard said it was tree trimmers responsibility to pick up limbs and tree debris after they chop down trees. It is not the community’s responsibility.
Tim Croy, board president; Shelly Kruger, board member; and Barb Ross, town clerk-treasurer, all agreed to schedule a budget meeting for the month of June. It will take place 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16. “It will be a discussion, not a hearing,” said Croy.
