The high school spring sports season is quickly coming to a conclusion.
Several local prep teams though will be back in action this week with state tournament championships on the line.
The Warsaw and Wawasee baseball teams both will play for sectional titles Monday night.
Warsaw (9-18) will travel to Elkhart Memorial to face Northridge (22-5) at 6 p.m. in the Class 4-A title game. The Tigers dropped a pair of regular-season contests to the Raiders. The winner of the Memorial Sectional advances to the LaPorte Regional on June 6.
Wawasee (12-13) will try to knock off host and defending champion NorthWood (22-3) in Nappanee. The Warriors and Panthers square off at 5 p.m. for the Class 3-A title. NorthWood beat the Warriors twice in league meetings this spring. The winner of the NorthWood Sectional moves on to the Bellmont Regional on June 6.
The Triton softball team will host a one-game regional Tuesday night. The Trojans, who are 20-10 and will be going for their second straight regional title, will meet South Central (21-7) at 7 p.m. in a Class 1-A regional contest at Keyser Field. Triton beat South Central 4-0 a year ago at Union Mills to win the program’s first-ever regional championship. The Triton Regional winner advances to the Clinton Prairie Semistate on June 6.
The boys golf state tourney series for local teams begins on Friday. A 13-team field will compete at the Warsaw Sectional at the Rozella Ford Golf Club at 8 a.m. The sectional includes Warsaw, Wawasee, Triton, Tippecanoe Valley, Whitko and Lakeland Christian Academy. The top three teams in the sectional earn a spot in the Warsaw Regional on June 11 at the Stonehenge Golf Club in Winona Lake.
The finale of the track season happens Friday and Saturday at Indiana University in Bloomington. The boys State Finals will be contested Friday with the girls State Finals on Saturday. Action begins both days with the pole vault, long jump and discus events at 3 p.m.
