Warsaw SportsThe Warsaw softball team closed out conference play with a 19-9 league loss to Elkhart Memorial in five innings Thursday night.

The host Tigers lost the final Northern Lakes Conference game despite hitting three home runs.

The trio of Abby Glass, Lauren Shaffner and Morgan Ashtari all connected for roundtrippers for the host Tigers.

Shaffner led the offense with three hits and four RBI. Glass had three hits and two RBI for Warsaw. Sarah Shoemaker had three hits and Ashley Gamble two.

Taylor Stiver took the pitching loss for Warsaw.

Gabby Warner had four hits and five RBI to lead Memorial, which improves to 11-17 overall and finishes at 8-6 in the NLC.

Warsaw hosts Tippecanoe Valley Friday and plays at South Bend St. Joseph on Saturday. The Tigers then face Goshen on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional.

Crimson Chargers Edge Tigers

Memorial started fast and then held on late to edge Warsaw 8-6 in baseball action Thursday.

The host Crimson Chargers scored five runs in the first inning and built an 8-3 lead. Warsaw scored three runs in the sixth for the two-run final in the final Northern Lakes Conference game.

Warsaw, which has lost twice to Memorial this season, is scheduled to play the Chargers again in a semifinal game of the Class 4-A Memorial Sectional on May 30.

Ryan Marshall led the offense for Warsaw with three hits. Cole Baker and Ethyn Bradley each had a pair of hits for the Tigers. Zach Witt had two RBI.

Starting pitcher Isaac Lenon took the loss for the Tigers.

Nick Brewers and Matt Kloss each had two hits and Daniel Asbury two RBI for Memorial. Derrick Oley got the pitching win.

Warsaw will host its own Tiger Tournament Saturday. Memorial, now 14-13 overall and 7-7 in the NLC, will play at Valparaiso on Friday.
