Wawasee SportsSYRACUSE – Tuesday’s 7-3 win against Fairfield might just have been the win the Wawasee Warrior baseball team needs as the postseason looms.

With the sectional draw fresh on everyone’s minds and Wawasee and Fairfield on opposite sides of the NorthWood Sectional draw, Tuesday’s matchup would be a nice primer of what could be a championship game collision. Wawasee can only hope Tuesday’s win, which breaks an eight-game losing skid to Fairfield, is an indication.

Drew Wright twirled a gem for the Warriors, pitching all seven innings, giving up eight hits, walking just one and striking out two.

Wright got some offensive help from Lucas Garza, who drove in a run and Caleb Dingeldein, who reached base three times and scored a run. Drew Anderson also helped the Warrior cause with a single, two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored.

Wawasee countered Fairfield’s three-run third with a four spot of its own in the fourth, then added two runs of insurance in the sixth before Wright closed the door in the seventh.

Wawasee improves to 9-12 overall and will face Concord Wednesday in its final Northern Lakes Conference game. The Warriors close the regular season Saturday at Lakeland and will then prepare for Thursday’s sectional matchup with Whitko. Fairfield will face host NorthWood in the first game of the sectional next Wednesday.

The Wawasee JV (6-11) outslugged Fairfield in an 11-5 final. Jacob Garcia, Jairus Boyer and Blaine Greer all had three hits apiece while Rylan Kuhn added a triple and two runs.
