Warsaw Sports Wrap – May 16
The Warsaw baseball team picked up a split in doubleheader play at Carroll Saturday.
The Tigers won the opener 6-2 before the host Chargers took the nightcap 12-4 in a non-conference matchup.
Warsaw tallied three runs in the third inning to take control in game one.
Senior Tyler LaFollette had a big game at the plate for Warsaw with two hits, including a home run, to go with three RBI.
Sterling Hay had three hits and also went deep for the Tigers in the win.
Winning pitcher Zach Witt fired a complete game five-hitter with one strikeout and no walks. Witt also had two hits, including a double for the Tigers.
Carroll scored seven runs in the third frame in the nightcap.
Witt had a pair of hits to pace the offense. Hay and Tyler Murphy each had a double.
Starting pitcher Henry Howard, the first of five pitchers, took the loss for Warsaw.
Warsaw, now 7-15, returns to conference play Monday at Concord.
Softball Team Drops Two
The Warsaw softball team lost a pair of games in its own Tiger Tournament Saturday.
Peru topped the Tigers 13-7 in one contest.
Sarah Shoemaker had three hits and two RBI for Warsaw. Morgan Ashtari had two hits and Karly Jones drove in two runs.
Abby Glass took the pitching loss for the Tigers.
Fort Wayne Concordia bested Warsaw 12-5. Concordia scored six runs in the first inning.
Shoemaker led the Tigers with three hits. Taylor Stiver was the losing pitcher.
Warsaw, now 2-17, hosts league foe Concord Monday evening.
