Whitko Sports Wrap – May 13
The Whitko baseball team outlasted Rochester Wednesday night for a key league win.
Tanner Hughes was the hero for the host Wildcats as they edged the Zebras 6-5 in nine innings in Three Rivers Conference play.
Hughes delivered an RBI single with two outs in the ninth frame to score Garrett Smiley from first base to give Whitko the win.
Rochester jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning only to see Whitko score three runs in the bottom of the opening frame to tie it.
Tanner Gaff turned in an outstanding effort on the hill for Whitko to get the pitching win. He went all nine innings, allowing just six hits, while striking out 13 and walking three.
Alex Bechtold was 2-2 at the plate for the winners. Landen Goff also had two hits and an RBI and Hunter Sroufe two hits for Whitko.
The Wildcats improve to 14-7 overall and move to 4-1 in the TRC.
Whitko plays at North Miami Thursday night.
Zebras Top Wildcats
A late rally was not quite enough as Whitko lost an 8-7 final to Rochester in league softball play.
The host Wildcats scored four runs in the final inning, but came up just short in the Three Rivers Conference game.
Kennedy Krull drove in three runs in the final inning for the Wildcats. She also had a single and a double in the contest.
Anna Ousley had a pair of hits for Whitko. Hanna Yohe was the losing pitcher.
Whitko plays at North Miami Thursday evening.
