The Warsaw baseball team notched its biggest win of the season Wednesday night.
The host Tigers handed NorthWood just its third loss of the season in a Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Warsaw edged past the Panthers 1-0 for the big league victory.
Zach Witt had two hits and drove in the game’s lone run for the Tigers in the home half of the sixth inning with an RBI single. The clutch game winning hit scored Sterling Hay for Warsaw.
Senior Kevin Hawley limited the Panthers to just five hits to collect the pitching win. He fanned four and walked just one in the complete game gem.
Hay also had two hits for the Tigers. Warsaw snapped a six-game losing streak and also avenged a 2-0 loss to the Panthers from earlier in the season.
Trent Sellers had a pair of hits to lead NorthWood. Chad Sellers took the pitching loss despite allowing just six hits while striking our two and walking e.
Warsaw improves to 6-12 overall and moves to 4-6 in the NLC. NorthWood drops to 15-3 overall and goes to 8-2 in league play.
Warsaw will play at Goshen Thursday night. The Tigers then host Northridge Friday for Senior Night.
Panthers Claim Softball Win
The NorthWood softball team topped visiting Warsaw 14-6 in Northern Lakes Conference play.
The Panthers plated seven runs in the sixth inning to post the win.
Karly Jones led the way for Warsaw with four hits. Ashley Gamble and Lauren Shaffner each a hit and two RBI for the Tigers.
Sidney Hernandez had two hits for Warsaw. Taylor Stiver took the pitching loss for the Tigers, who committed just one error and turned four double plays in the NLC contest.
April Flickinger had three hits and Summer Stillson three RBI for the Panthers.
Warsaw falls to 2-13 overall and 2-8 in the NLC. NorthWood is now 15-7 overall and 8-4 in league action.
Warsaw won the junior varsity game 9-6. The Warsaw JV is now 3-10 overall and 2-8 in the NLC.
Warsaw hosts Goshen Thursday evening.
Golfers Open NLC With Two Wins
Brandon Eckert led the way as the Warsaw boys golf team opened league play with two wins.
Eckert earned medalist honors with a 36 as coach Ben Barkey’s team topped host Plymouth and Elkhart Memorial in the Northern Lakes Conference opener at the Plymouth Country Club.
Warsaw shot a team score of 159 in the NLC triangular, which had been postponed on Monday due to the weather. Plymouth shot 166 and Memorial 178.
Jonny Hollar came in with a 40 for the Tigers, who are 4-0 overall.
Reid Cameron finished with a 41, Michael Jensen a 42 and Ryan Cultice a 43 for the consistent winners.
The Warsaw junior varsity team shot 180 to top Plymouth (193).
Sam Yeager led the Tiger JV squad, also now 4-0, with a 41.
Luke Delp shot a 44, while Tim Rata had a 45, Jacob LaLonde a 50 and Lucas Johnson a 54 for the JV Tigers.
Warsaw returns to action Thursday with another NLC triangular. The Tigers will face host Concord and Goshen at the Bent Oak course in Elkhart.
