Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Wood of the Putnamville Post responded to numerous calls Saturday morning regarding a fawn in the median of Interstate 70 that appeared to be alive but in danger on the busy highway.

Wood was able to locate the deer in the median as had been stated, and also found what was likely the mother deer dead on the shoulder of the road. The fawn was believed to be only hours old.

Wood picked the fawn up, placed it in a towel and took it to a nearby towing service company to get warm and clean.

“The numerous calls undoubtedly set forth activities which led to the safety of this deer,” stated Wood. “It was also heartwarming for all of us to play such a vital role in the health and well-being of this animal.”

The deer was later placed in the care of an animal rehabilitation center in Montgomery county.
