Whitko Nine Win Pair, Lose One
PONETO – The Whitko baseball team picked up a pair of wins at Southern Wells Saturday.
The Wildcats took the opener 7-2 and then won the nightcap 11-1.
The duo of Zach Hewitt and Landen Goff combined to pitch a two-hitter in the opener. Hewitt notched the win, allowing just one hit and no earned runs in five innings of work on the hill with three walks and seven strikeouts.
Tanner Gaff smacked a home run for the Wildcats in the game one win.
Tanner Hughes was 2-3 with three stolen bases and Hewitt was 2-2 with a double. Riley Anderson was 2-3 with a double and Zach Snep and Goff each went 2-4.
Snep had a big day at the plate in game two by going 3-4 with a double and a triple and scoring two runs.
Anderson picked up a home run and Garr was 2-4 with a double and three runs scored. Garrett Smiley was 2-3 and Drew Bradford notched the pitching win.
Whitko lost an 11-8 decision at Belmont late Friday night. The Wildcats scored six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-4 lead only to see the hosts plate five runs in the sixth frame to retake the lead.
Hunter Sroufe had a double and scored three runs for Whitko, who only had four hits in the loss. Alex Robbins had two RBI, Bradford an RBI and Snep a hit and a run scored.
Bellmont improved to 13-1 with the win.
Whitko, now 13-7, will play at North Miami on Monday evening.
