Wawasee SportsSoftball Back On Track At Manchester

After a tough early week on the road, Wawasee softball got back in the win column Friday night with an 8-1 win at Manchester.

Danielle Gunkel continued her torrid start to the season with a double among her four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Wawasee offensive. Madi Wilson pounded out three hits and scored two runs and Allissa Flores tripled and drove in two for the Warriors, which had 10 hits on the night.

Amber Lemberg was fantastic in the circle for Wawasee, firing a two-hitter and striking out nine. Lemberg only allowed one run in the sixth on an Ellie Milam RBI single.

The win pushes Wawasee to 4-2 on the season and ends a modest two-game losing streak.

The Lady Warriors will return home for an 11 a.m. Saturday first pitch against Class 1-A No. 8 Triton Trojans. Manchester (1-1) will visit Fremont for a Saturday doubleheader.

Norwell Bolts Past Wawasee Baseball

The hot run Wawasee had to the start of the baseball season cooled a little Friday night at Norwell. The host Knights held Wawasee to just four hits in a 9-0 win in Ossian.

Norwell pushed across seven runs against Warrior starter Drew Wright, who lasted four innings. The Knights, ranked No. 7 in the Class 3-A poll, had 10 hits overall to move to 3-1 overall.

Wawasee (5-1) had Aaron Beer record its only extra base hit with a double.

Wawasee will return home Monday when it begins Northern Lakes Conference play in hosting Warsaw, a 5 p.m. first pitch.

East Noble Edges Wawasee JV

The East Noble JV baseball team found a little more gusto Friday night in a 6-5 win at Wawasee.

Wawasee hit the ball well, highlighted by two doubles from Spencer Prescott, a single and double plus an RBI from Gavin Bontrager, and a double from Jamie Slabaugh.

Wawasee (1-1) will host Warsaw Monday afternoon.
