Herbert S. Freel, 76 of Warsaw, passed away at 3:58 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
On July 6, 1938, he was born in Freeport, Ill., to Howard and Dorothy (Dunkin) Freel. He was united in marriage to Martha Parrish on June 23, 1962, in Plant City, Fla., who survives.
Freel served in the U.S. Army Reserve then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1958 to 1961. He worked as a trimmer operator for Donnelley and Sons Inc., Warsaw, retiring in 1999. He had a big heart and loved to help people. He loved fishing and wood working, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Freel, Warsaw; three daughters, Y. Melanie (and spouse David) Ottenhausen, Warsaw, Catrina Freel, Bolingbrook, Ill., and Wendy (and spouse Jeremy) Cox,, Warsaw; four grandchildren, Selina Long, Chelsea Nette, Kaleena Nette and Kenton Long, all of Warsaw, a nephew, Willard Jones, Warsaw, and his beloved boxer, Tequila Two. Freel was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Freel, two sisters and a brother.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 49 and VFW Post No. 1126, Warsaw. Burial will be at a later date.
