Dear Editor,

Some of our fellow Republicans are supporting Democrat David Kolbe over fellow Republican Curt Nisly. You may or may not be aware that every two years after getting statewide input, the Indiana Republican Party Platform is adopted at the Republican Party state convention.

If you weren’t there for its adoption, or have not read it, I ask you to do so before voting on Nov. 4 at www.indgop.org/party-documents.

It specifically states that “as Republicans, we strongly believe in: protecting and defending our U.S. and Indiana Constitutions, the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, sanctity of human life, strong family structures, individual liberty and freedom, personal responsibility, fiscal responsibility, limited government,” and, lastly, that “our federal government was formed by the states and the 10th Amendment of our U.S. Constitution appropriately provides that those powers not enumerated to the federal government are reserved to the states and to the people.”

Nisly scores 100 percent on all of those points based on mail pieces, multiple media sources, the candidate website, the candidate forum and one-on-one conversations.

Kolbe scores 50 percent on the Second Amendment and sanctity of life and earns question marks on the rest based on the same sources or lack thereof.

Gore Vidal once said “Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests.”

And, one of our founding fathers Alexander Hamilton said, “Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.”

Having served the Republican party in many capacities I ask you as a fellow Republican to reconsider your support and vote wisely, vote for fellow Republican Nisly.
