Dear Editor,

If you are undecided on your choice for State Representative please take a look at David Kolbe’s website, www.kolbeforstaterep.com. If you are decided, look anyway, you may find his journey from Republican to a moderate new Democrat enlightening and informative.

The New Democrat Coalition took root in the U.S. in 1997. One of three original founders was Indiana Congressman Tim Roemer. Indiana Senator Evan Bayh also took part in its establishment and current Indiana Congressman Andre Carson is a member of the coalition, as well.

The New Democrat movement was inspired by former Prime Minister Tony Blair, a vocal Christian, whose Third Way movement in Great Britain worked towards uniting right-wing economic and left-wing social policies.

Inform yourself of the New Democrat movement and do not let the label scare you off. It is worth the effort to cast a conscientious vote for the candidate and not just the party.

The extreme far wings in our country may never come together, but for the rest who desire a country united in a God honoring fashion, Kolbe will work towards resolution. Kolbe is a moderate. He has thoughtfully and honorably arrived at this position. Take him at his word; he is sincerely reaching across the aisle.

Kolbe’s words are not empty, nor are his objectives. He is a passionate pro-life advocate and he supports conservative fiscal spending and growing the middle class.

Kolbe has served on multiple local boards as president or member. These organizations include the YMCA, Right to Life, Warsaw Housing Authority, Warsaw Christian School and more.

To the issue of Kolbe’s vocation; it has been disappointing to see so many demeaning comments, based solely on his profession. We trust that it is obvious to fair-minded individuals that these comments are based on rhetoric and not on merit.

In fact, the reality is that Kolbe’s profession will benefit the constituents of District 22. His experience and familiarity with the law and legislative matters will serve him well in the House of Representatives by allowing him to speak intelligently to the matters at hand from day one.

Kolbe has also demonstrated through his numerous calls for a debate that he believes in accountability and presenting his positions openly.

We may never all agree on issues such as gay rights and taxes but our hope would be that all of us would approach each issue with the mindset of humility and grace.

When Americans are tied to any political movement that polarizes the citizens in our country in an unloving or dishonoring way, it is time to reconsider, Democrats and Republicans alike.

In the meantime, as a new Democrat lawyer and a fellow man of faith, we vote for Kolbe.
