An Unnoticed War Before Our Eyes

Dear Editor,

Recently I was honored to give the invocation at the LIFE Center’s Annual Banquet as they celebrated 31 years of service to Wabash County and the surrounding areas. Rebecca Kiessling, attorney, international speaker and author of “Conceived in Rape: A Story of Hope,” shared her amazing story. (See www.rebeccakiessling.com and www.wabashlife.com)

I would like to share my opening remarks:

The days in which we live are filled with many uncertainties. The continued war on terror has been renewed in our nation’s conscience. Before our eyes is the high price of war, and a heightened desire for peace. Yet, despite these valid concerns we have an unnoticed war right before our very eyes, within our own borders, and often within our own home towns. This war has claimed over 56 million American lives in the last 41 years. This war strikes at the very core of humanity. And, at the very heart of God.

Abortion is never simply a “choice,” God has uniquely crafted His creation, a creation which comes into existence at conception. One of the first instincts of human nature is the preservation of life. By terminating a pregnancy, the beating heart of a growing human being stops, her life no longer existing. This is a direct contradiction to preserving human life. Pope Francis is quoted as saying “The right to life is the first among human rights.”

In a day and age where the majority of battles stem from the core argument of a person’s “rights”, how is it that the very “right to life” is being terminated legally? This war on the unborn must stop. It must be engaged in, fought in, and ended with a victory for the beating heart, for the innocent unborn. We must be the voice for the voiceless. And, we must share with those who have had abortions that there is forgiveness and healing in Jesus Christ.

This is not a time for us to be silent, complacent or apathetic. When it comes to human life, God’s creation, is it not just and proper to speak up in defense of the unborn – those whose very lives are depending on our voices?

God’s creation is not a “choice,” it is a human life… a baby whose heart beats just as yours and mine. Life is the right of every child – not a special privilege for the preferred, the planned, and the perfect.

Let us pray … Father, we pray for the protection and the rescue of the many unborn. We pray that their parents will always Choose Life, and that parenting and adoption are seen as viable options, while abortion is seen for what it is: the taking of an innocent life. We pray healing for the many suffering from post-abortion stress syndrome. Help us, Lord, we pray. Revive your church, awaken our nation, and heal our land. We ask in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen.
