Sacred Heart students participated in a STREAM unit learning how a business works in the free-enterprise system.

Students were assigned a group of business partners and decided what paper products they wanted to make and sell. They made products of their choice, of any size that they wanted, and sold it for any price that they wanted.

Their products had to be made of paper. Their products were to be of colored paper, construction paper or magazine paper. They used tape, staples or glue to construct toys, games, bookmarkers or books.

Each group made a product, set a price and sold it. The group could change the price before or after selling time, although during selling time, groups could not change the price. Student merchants used play money to buy products.

Student kept careful record of the products they made, the number sold and kept a careful record of the money they earned as a business.

Students learned many aspects of business from setting prices, keeping records and expanded their vocabulary with words of economy, free-enterprise system, product, profit, supply and demand,

Students were assessed on the neatness and accuracy of their ledgers, on their reflection journal entries, as well as, spelling and punctuation.
