Warriors Add Second Invite Title

Wawasee logoSYRACUSE – While the Wawasee junior varsity softball team rounded out a perfect season with a Wawasee Invite title Saturday, up the hill, the JV baseball team claimed its own championship with a title at its Wawasee Invite.

The Warrior baseball team shut out Tippecanoe Valley, 11-0, in the first game then hammered Wabash, 7-2, to hoist the trophy.

Chase Rookstool paced the Warriors in game one with three hits while Lucas Garza added two doubles. On the hill, Harrison Shortill and Spencer Prescott combined to strike out nine Vikings.

In the final against the Apaches, Prescott had two hits and Garza struck out four.

Wawasee (15-6) will conclude its season Tuesday with a home game against West Noble.

On the varsity diamond at Lakeland, the Lakers scored five unanswered runs in clip the Warriors, 9-5, in a game played Saturday morning in Lagrange.

Gage Reinhard and Nate Hare each had two hits and Drew Anderson had a double, two runs scored and stole a base.

Patrick Navarro worked 4.2 innings on the hill, giving up five runs, five hits and three walks in taking the loss.

Wawasee’s varsity falls to 9-15 on the campaign and will host West Noble Tuesday in its final regular season contest before focusing on a rematch with West Noble Wednesday in game one of the Whitko Baseball Sectional.
