Wawasee logoSoftball Shuts Down Plymouth

Another night in the Northern Lakes Conference, another win for the Wawasee softball program. Friday night’s victim was Plymouth in a 5-0 win at Wawasee.

The Lady Warriors, which move to 16-7 on the season and 7-4 in the NLC, have won six of its last seven conference games and again did it with solid pitching and timely hits.

Amber Lemberg tossed her third shutout of the season, striking out 10 and holding Plymouth to just three hits.

At the dish, Kylee Rostochak was the hero, smacking a double, driving in a run and stealing a base to lead the Lady Warriors. Danielle Gunkel and Cristina DeLaFuente also had RBIs for Wawasee.

Plymouth were plauged by five errors, which didn’t help the outing from Haley Brown, who was decent in allowing just six hits and three earned runs.

Wawasee’s JV trailed Plymouth 1-0 before responding with 11 unanswered runs in a 11-0, five-inning final.

Riley Kunkle had a triple and three runs driven in to lead Wawasee while Kayla White drove in three, scored two runs and stole a base. Hannah Haines allowed just two hits and struck out nine for the win in the circle.

Wawasee’s next league matchup is Monday at home against Goshen.

Pilgrims Trip Up Warriors

One big inning pushed Plymouth through in a 9-2 win over Wawasee Friday night at Bill Nixon Field in Plymouth.

A five-run third inning set the tone for the Pilgrims, which chased Wawasee starter Nate Hare from the contest, who allowed four of the runs. Plymouth also added three runs in the fifth to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

Gage Reinhard and Kurtis Liston each had two hits for the Warriors, which drop to 2-9 in the NLC and 7-13 overall. Andrew Milligan added an RBI single.

Plymouth’s offense was steady in the JV contest, beating Wawasee 6-4. The Pilgrims broke a 2-2 tie with solo runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings while Wawasee (10-5) only responded with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Sam Rookstool went 2-for-3 and Nik Wilson had three stolen bases for Wawasee. Harrison Shortill tossed four strikeouts for the Warriors on the hill.

Wawasee will travel to Goshen Monday for its next scheduled contest.
