Tea Party, Nisly Not What We Need

Dear Editor,

The Tea Party and Nisly are not what we need.

The Tea Party is a dysfunctional and minority segment of our country. Anybody who supports the Tea Party or any of their candidates needs to educate themselves and take a long look in the mirror. Having religious beliefs and practicing them is one thing. Forcing them on others and making laws based on religion is another thing completely. I never understood how anybody could wholeheartedly support and respect our constitution, then turn around and disregard it by making laws based only on your religious beliefs. The founding fathers were very, very clear about how they felt about religion being involved with the state. All one has to do is read a few history books to determine that the founding fathers wanted to keep government free of religion, and vice versa. Secularism has always been a cornerstone of our government, regardless of what David Barton and other pseudo-historians would have you believe.

The Tea Party is a party of extremists who do not believe in compromise or negotiating. Look at last fall’s government shutdown. The Tea Party minority wing of the Republican party decided that they would rather shut down the government than try to accomplish anything meaningful. Is that what we should expect from Curt Nisly? Will he obstruct and make passionate speeches about how he is really the true conservative? Will he ever work with Democrats or moderate Republicans to accomplish meaningful legislation?

I want somebody representing me who will govern effectively. Somebody who will compromise and negotiate with the other party to create progress, not obstruct it. Since when did being the “true conservative” even matter? Kubacki is plenty conservative. One only has to look at her track record to see that. Kubacki has the experience to continue being our state representative and govern effectively. Nisly’s rhetoric and extremism is not what we need for District 22 or our state. We need a representative who can listen to everybody and make the best decision for all of her constituents, not just the religious extremists who Nisly and the Tea Party cater to. Please vote for common sense and experience, vote for Kubacki.
