Wawasee’s woes in the Northern Lakes Conference continued Friday night in a make-up appearance at Northridge. The Lady Warriors remained winless in NLC court duals, losing another 5-0 result at the hands of the Lady Raiders.

Katy Ashpole came close to breaking the streak for Wawasee, which dates back to 2011 without an NLC court victory. Ashpole dropped the first set to two singles foe Ashley Owens, 7-5, and could not rally enough in a 6-3 second set loss.

The remainder of the Lady Raiders lost just five games on the other four courts, highlighted by a love and love sweep by Sarah Smith over Esther Hermann at one singles.

Emily Hughes put away Priscilla Par one and one in the three singles match while the doubles partnerships of Olivia Erekson and Courtney Clark went one and one against Jada Antonides and Sam Prins. The two doubles tandem of Emily Erekson and Mackenzie Martin lost just one game in the second set over Natalie Fritz and Ashley Larson.

The Northridge JV won every one of its matchups 8-1 against Wawasee. Taking singles wins were Kylie Frauhiger, Alexis Graber and Kourtney Hoover while Kaley Owens and Dora Wilson along with Allison Rush and Teagan Benscic grabbed doubles wins.

Wawasee (2-5, 0-4 NLC) will take on non-conference foe West Noble on Monday at home.

Redskins Slip Past Warriors

Goshen plated a single run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Wawasee, 2-1, Friday night in NLC baseball action.

It was the second straight night Wawasee has lost in the opponent’s final at-bat. Nate Hare was the tough luck loser for the Warriors (1-7, 1-4 NLC), giving up just five hits in seven innings. Deric Haynes picked up the win as starter for Goshen (5-5, 3-3 NLC) by allowing just three Wawasee hits in his appearance.

Wawasee lost its game Wednesday night at Plymouth in walk-off fashion.

The Goshen JV also won a tight contest, 3-2, in a game played Friday night at Wawasee. Harrison Shortill had a pair of hits for the Warriors (3-3) and Donovan Navarro threw four innings of one-hit ball in the loss.

Wawasee’s varsity will take to the diamond in Waterford Mills Saturday as part of a doubleheader against Bethany Christian. The games, in an effort to add experience after the March 26 game was cancelled, begin at 9 a.m.
