Over the past two weeks, Warsaw Police have investigated over two dozen thefts of items from parked vehicles all over the city. The items taken have varied from purses and wallets to laptop computers and other electronics.

On Friday, Aug. 17, Warsaw Police arrested Gene M. Poe, 28, of 316 S. Washington St., Warsaw, with criminal trespass after one of the victim’s identified Poe to police after observing him in his vehicle. Today, police say more arrests and charges are likely.

Items found in Poe’s pockets implicate him in several other thefts and additional charges are expected.

A majority of the thefts have occurred to unlocked vehicles at or near the owners’ residences. Some vehicles were broken into to gain access when the item was visible.

Warsaw Police remind residents to lock their vehicles, even while at home. The best practice is to not leave purses, wallets or electronics of any kind in vehicles when unattended.

Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to contact the Warsaw Police Department Investigations Division at 574-372-9538.
