SYRACUSE — With a warmer than usual fall and winter, it’s been an uphill battle for Syracuse Lake to form enough ice to support dozens of people and snowmobiles. Now with a forecast of snow, the Wawasee Kiwanis Club has canceled its annual snowmobile drags.

For the first time in two years, the sound of snowmobile engines emanated from Syracuse Lake when the Wawasee Kiwanis Snowmobile Drags returned to Syracuse Saturday, just offshore from the lakeside park. The Wawasee Kiwanis Club has now officially cancelled the snowmobile drags which had already been postponed twice. The drags were set for this Saturday, Feb. 16, on Syracuse Lake. Due to poor ice conditions, however, the event has been cancelled for this year.

Approximately 140 individuals attended the Wawasee Kiwanis Winter Carnival Soup Supper on Friday, Jan. 25, to sample 22 different varieties of soups and vote for their favorites.
