LEBANON, TENN. — The birth of a child should be a joyous occasion, but that moment turned into a nightmare for two proud new parents after they learned doctors mistakenly performed surgery on their healthy newborn.

Alicia Keir, 24, of DeMotte, Indiana, pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter in the death of her newborn on a cruise ship in October 2011.
