Community Suicide Prevention Event Today At Grace

WINONA LAKE — The community is invited to “Journey from Hoplessness to Health” today at the Manahan Orthopaedic Center at Grace College, Winona Lake.

Keynote speakers Eric Hipple and Dr. Phil Rodgers share their experiences in the morning, followed by an intervention panel presentation from 10:50-11:50 a.m. with moderator, Lisa Brattain, Indiana/Ohio area director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Sam Preston; Bowen Center staff psychologist, Dr. Siquilla Liebetrau; LivingWorks Education Vice President of Design, Development and Evaluation, Dr. Phil Rogers; and New Organization founder, Kayla Hands.

Breakout sessions are set for 1 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. and include topics like, “Suicide Prevention and Social Media,” “Serving the Transgender Population,” Question, Persuade, Refer: Ask a Question, Save a Life;” and “The Phoenix Protocol: Rising from the Ashes.”

Other breakout topics include building a suicide safety plan, “Community Involvement to Prevent Refugee Suicide,” “Classifying High-Risk Behavior,” “Postvention for Suicide Survivors” and “Developing a Peer Support Team for Your Organization.”
