Tennis Team Gets Another ‘W’

The Wawasee tennis team traveled to Albion Tuesday night and found themselves leaving with a 4-1 victory.

Nate Perek continued his nice season with a win at No. 2 singles. Perek defeated Ethan Van Wagner 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Cameron Brill downed Reggie Parker 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Nate Haines took a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 1 singles to Masyn Krieger.

The doubles courts enjoyed a sweep. The No. 2 doubles team of Evan Krueger and Dylan Staley dominated with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jordan Crisp and Tanner Rose.

Cal Heinisch and Tim Conley were well on their way to an easy sweep but ended up needing a tiebreaker to beat Trey Phillips and Tom Hayes 6-0, 7-6.

Wawasee (3-1) will travel to West Noble Thursday.

Golfers Continue To Roll

The Wawasee girls golf team continued their dominance on the course Tuesday night. Wawasee opened up Northern Lakes Conference play with a 182-183-259 over Plymouth and Elkhart Memorial, respectively.

“We escaped with a win,” said head coach Steve Coverstone. “Kylee (Rostochak) parred her last six holes for a 42 and Mikala (Mawhorter played very solid for us.”

Mawhorter turned in a 43 while Rostochak led the team with a 42. Randi Dunn (Plymouth) was medalist with a 41. Aubrey Schmeltz signed for a 47 for Wawasee. The Warriors scores were rounded out with a 50 from Madison Beaman and a 51 from Kamryn Foy. Elkhart Memorial was led by a 56 from Kelsey Weaver.

The JV team won with a score of 221. They were led by a 49 from Zoe White. Lesley Tayagua (60), Katie Weisser (61), Dara Hatch (51) and Rhyss Kunkle (64) rounded out the scores for the JV team.

Wawasee (9-0) will travel to Warsaw Wednesday night.

Volleyball Team Drops A Match

The Wawasee volleyball team dropped its game at Central Noble Tuesday night. The host Cougars enjoyed a 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 win over the visiting Lady Warriors.

Ashley Beer led Wawasee with 17 digs. Sequinn Bright added another 16 digs and seven kills. Liza Hardy and Hannah-Marie Lamle both had three blocks.

“We are continuing to move forward with our level of play,” said head coach Chris Cole. “Even with the loss, our consistency of play from one game to the next is allowing us to stay close. Now we can focus on finishing games to start obtaining more wins.”

Wawasee (1-7) will travel to Bethany Christian Thursday.

The junior varsity team took a 2-1 victory home and improves to 6-1 on the year. Olivia Clouse led the JV team with 10 kills. Faith Swihart added five aces.

Wawasee’s C-team debuted Tuesday night and split in its games at Concord. Wawasee dropped the contest to Concord 2-0 but swept Goshen 2-0 to move to 1-1 on the year.
