Whitko Edges Past LCA
SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko boys soccer team was able to edge past Lakeland Christian Academy by a 1-0 final Saturday evening.
A goal by Basie Trimmer early in the second half enabled the host Wildcats to post the win. Jake Rothgeb assisted on the game winner for Whitko.
The first half was played at a scoreless tie. Defenders Melissa Goss, Jeremy Gross, Joven Bowder and Cristal Vindel-Reyes helped lead the way for LCA.
The second half saw a more physical match with a Whitko player picking up a red card and being ejected late in the contest. LCA played the final five minutes of the match with a man advantage, but were not able to score.
The trio of Garret McCoomb, Theran McKeever and Cross Williams were cited for their play for the Cougars in the final half.
LCA had a 6-3 edge in shots on goal in the contest.
Devin Goggin had six saves in the net for the winning Wildcats.
LCA (0-3) hosts Bethany Christian on Thursday. Whitko (1-1) plays at Plymouth Tuesday.
