SYRACUSE – The Wawasee girls soccer team need to get things started off on the right foot this season to send a message that they were done being a doormat and so far the Lady Warriors have done a great job of showing people that things have changed.

Wawasee won its second game of the season Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory over visiting West Noble. Wawasee moves to 2-0 now for the first time since 2012 and the ladies have score six goals combined in their first two contests.

Wednesday night’s game was physical to say the least. Wawasee managed to win thanks to two goals from Leigh-Ann Shrack and another from Sarah Lancaster.

Lancaster’s goal was Wawasee’s first of the contest and tied things up 1-1. West Noble has the game’s first goal thanks to a great effort from Diana Ramirez. Ramirez was later ejected from the contest after receiving a red card for foul language.

Shrack gave Wawasee the lead with 18 minutes to play in the game then later added the insurance goal with just four minutes remaining. Kimberly Pizana closed the gap for the Chargers with a goal inside of two minutes to play but Wawasee would hang on for the win.

“We had a slow start but picked it up in the last 15 minutes of the first half,” stated Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “We are inconsistent on offense but managed to capitalize on the opportunities that we had…our defense was solid throughout”

Wawasee (2-0) will travel to Westview for a 1:30 p.m. kick this Saturday.

The Wawasee JV also enjoyed a win thanks to a goal by Meg Heinisch off an assist from Megan Bray. Wawasee (1-0-1) will next play on Tuesday following the varsity contest against Manchester.
