Donald E. Klopfenstein
Donald E. Klopfenstein, 94, of Columbia City, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Manorcare Health Services in Rolling Meadows, Ill.
He was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Fort Wayne, a son of Lester and Elizabeth (Schneider) Klopfenstein. As a young boy, his family moved to rural Columbia City from Garrett. He completed his education at Columbia City High School.
On June 17, 1944, he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged June 3, 1946.
Don was a self employed electrician and refrigeration contractor.
His memberships included First Baptist Church and formerly American Legion Post #98.
Surviving relatives include three children: Kirby K. Klopfenstein, Huntington; Donna Dreher; and Victoria Mitchell, both of Springfield Mo.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Violet Klopfenstein; a brother: Richard Klopfenstein; and a sister: Valette Wright.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 9 a.m. The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery.
