NWS Issues Special Weather Statement
NORTHERN INDIANA — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement at 11:29 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected through the early portions of the overnight hours, especially north of US 6. A few storms may produce one half inch hail and wind gusts to 50 miles per hour.
A line of strong thunderstorms will affect Starke, northern Pulaski, Fulton, southern Elkhart, Marshall, northwestern Whitley, Kosciusko, western LaGrange, southern LaPorte, South St. Joseph and western Noble counties.
At 11:29 p.m. a line of strong thunderstorms were along a line extending from near Middlebury to Wakarusa to Westville and moving south at 20 miles per hour.
Wind gusts to 45 miles per hour and pea size hail are possible with these storms.
Locations impacted include Goshen, Warsaw, Plymouth, Nappanee, Rochester, Westville, Winona Lake, Bremen, Ligonier, Knox, Syracuse, Winamac, Middlebury, Walkerton, Bourbon, North Judson, Argos, Milford, Kingsford Heights and Culver.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 15 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
