Richard Roy Maher, Sr., 63, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born June 29, 1952, in St. Louis, Mo. to the late Louis J. and Joyce V. (Hickey) Maher. He came to Indiana at a young age and has lived here all his life.
Rick took over the family business, Precision Pallets, in 1973 which he owned until 1984. Because of his great love of the timber industry, he again started his own business, Northern Wood Products, Inc. in 1985. In 2014, Rick began a trucking business, NWP Trucking LLC. Both business will continue on being passed down to his sons, Richard Jr. and Michael.
Rick loved being in the woods, mushroom hunting, and teaching his sons and grandsons to hunt or just enjoy nature. He also loved to go fishing, but his biggest enjoyment was Sporting Clays Shooting, which he has passed the love of this sport down to his sons, grandsons and granddaughter.
On June 7, 1970, he was united in marriage to June M. (Gardner), who survives. Along with his loving wife: June; he is also survived by his sons: Richard Jr.(fiancée Barbara Martin), Culver; Michael (Tisha) Walkerton; six grandchildren: Richard (fiancée Elizabeth Young) Maher, III; Zachary Maher; Jessica Benak; Grace Baher; Bodin Jacobson; and Dominick Maher; and two beautiful great-grandchildren: Torrenn; and Damion Maher. On brother: David (Randi), Walkerton; also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Joyce Maher; brother: Louis Jr.; and nephew: Louis III.
Funeral services for Richard Maher will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, North Liberty. Friends may gather with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, also at the church, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
