One of the last week of  summer reading events at the Syracuse Library was the Thursday Tea. The party was attended by children who each got a bear and volunteers and parents. Many families were already gone in preparation for the return to school.

Schedule Starts the School Year

More than 300 youth actively participated in the reading programs at the Syracuse Library this summer. Many other children and families were able to attend 45 weekly programs. No children’s programs are scheduled in August.

The young adult book club begins the school year schedule at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18The group meets through the year on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Teens that are in six grade and up are invited to have some food, talk about books, movies or fanfiction while working on a craft or playing a game.

Children’s Department has Plans

Children’s Book Club meets on the second Tuesday each month beginning in September. Children from kindergarten to fifth grade are welcome to join an evening of reading, games, and snacks.

This fall homeschoolers will meet. An informal survey is being conducted to determine the best time and day. A Lego Club will begin meeting every other Saturday. Story time begins an eight week session in October. Once the weather turns cool, knitting and crocheting will meet in time to work on holiday presents and crafts. Adult Book Clubs Continue

‘One Book, One Hour’ is convening for the regularly scheduled book club at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. The book and author the group is discussing is Mitch Albom’s semi-autobiographical book, “Have a Little Faith.” The roundtable discussion takes place in the meeting room of the Syracuse Library.

The adult book club Dysfuntional will talk about two more Florida authors. The next is Randy Wayne White, the author of 25 mystery adventures, restaurant owner and writer of adventure cookbooks. The August meeting is on Thursday, Aug. 20 and is a discussion based on a power-point overview.
