Wawasee SportsHUNTINGTON – Wawasee continued to wade into its 2015 girls golf season with a decent showing Wednesday afternoon at the Huntington Invitational. The Lady Warriors placed fourth with a 359 among the 12 competing teams in the field.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger used a fifth-player tiebreaker to trump Fort Wayne Carroll as both teams shot 340 in the top spot. A 103 from Katherine Hill did the trick for the Saints in claiming the title from the Chargers’ fifth score of 128.

Homestead was third with a 351. Concord posted a 433, Manchester shot a 436, and the Squire JV a 498 as competing area teams.

For the Lady Warriors, Madison Beaman led the team with an 87 while Mikala Mawhorter shot an 88. Teammates Aubrey Schmeltz and Kamryn Foy each carded 92s and Kylee Rostochak finished at 93.

Dwenger’s Sarah Frazier led the field with a fantastic score of 71 while Blackhawk’s Casey Bunner and Carroll’s Kierstin Murphy each shot a 77 to tie for runner-up honors.

Wawasee will next compete this afternoon (Thursday) at 3 p.m. at Maxwelton against Whitko and Concord.
