SYRACUSE — From a previously donated refrigerator that won’t fit through the door to wrapping up its open house, the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce board addressed several moving-related topics at its regular meeting Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Board members tidied up two items that corresponded with the move, including approving the sale of the chamber’s refrigerator, which is too big to reach its new destination. With its sale, board members also approved the purchase of a new smaller refrigerator.
Additionally, board members approved the indefinite loan of two smaller display racks, which go with its large display, to the Syracuse Public Library. Executive Director Tammy Cotton stated currently they had no space for the racks and the library had expressed interest in them.
As for the July 29 open house, Cotton shared with board members “the open house was awesome.” She added, “We got tons of positive feedback.” She noted it had quite the turnout.
Events were another topic of discussion.
In his events task force report, Chamber President Chad Jonsson stated they were finishing plans for the harvest festival to occur Saturday, Oct. 10. Entertainment is lined up for the event, and vendors at the farmer’s market have been contacted.
The board also heard a presentation from Chad Hartson of Ice Creations, based in Ohio, about doing multiple ice sculptures for the winter festival. Ice Creations completed “Frozen” ice sculptures during last year’s festival in front of Oakwood Resort.
His presentation focused on getting business sponsorships for individual ice carvings, which could be displayed in front of local businesses. The chamber will be presenting the information to the events task force.
