SYRACUSE — Syracuse Public Library news and events this week:

Friends Have Successful Year

The Friends of the Syracuse library are funding the trip to the Fort Wayne Zoo. They are helping the library with funds for several projects including an adult bus trip, half-priced book sale, and as contributors to the landscaping project. The Tuesday bus trip is a reward for children who have read for at least four weeks in this summer’s program, Every Hero has a Story. Registration is required to reserve a place on the trip. Children that aren’t accompanied by an adult can be supervised by the staff or volunteers from the library. The zoo has won many awards and is a favorite place to visit during the summer.

Fun and Games

This week we will have a special fun and games day at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, as Echo is on vacation. The library will try to go outside to play the water games that it was too cold for earlier. Join the fun also at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, for Thursday’s Tea Time, for a chicken hero afternoon, and Friday’s movie about three children that get taken care of by a dinosaur mother is at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24. There is popcorn!

Popular Hypnotist Returns

Angie Hernandez, a local hypnotherapist, is beginning a series of presentations from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. The first session is an introduction to hypnosis in a safe group environment. Experience hypnosis for weight loss while turning down a craving for food or beverage. Hernandez is offering the class for free in the meeting room of the Syracuse Library.

Dysfunctional Book Club

Florida is a crazy place and is the source of inspiration for many authors. At 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23, the book club is talking about the author of 50 books, Pulitzer Prize winning syndicated columnist, Dave Berry. Loved by some, disdained by many, Barry is a 30 year contributor on the discussion of the weird and mainstream activities of Americans besides being the author of children’s and adult books of fiction. The group meets for an hour at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23. The library may be contacted at (574) 457-3022.
