Kathryn J. Juday­ Spahr, 93, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2015, in Crossville, Tenn., following a brief illness.

Kathryn was born to Jesse and Florence (Miller) LeCount in Wolf Lake, on Jan. 16, 1921. After graduating from Wawaka High School, she attended Manchester College. On March 28, 1942, Kathryn married Harold L. Juday, who preceded her in death on March 8, 1987. She was remarried to Edward O. Spahr on Aug. 24, 1993, until his death on June 20, 1995.

She was also preceded in death by a sister Helen Schermerhorn, and a brother Paul LeCount.

She is survived by three children: Sue Ann Neff, Crossville, Tenn.; Mary Jo Juday, Fort Wayne; and John David (Karen) Juday, Raleigh, N.C.; seven grandchildren: Kathryn Hallcomb, Cookeville, Tenn.; Patrick May, Fort Wayne; Michael Neff, Chicago, Ill.; Robert Pelikan, Fort Wayne; Judy Neff, Chesterfield, Va.; Alexander Juday, Raleigh, N.C.; and Kimberly Juday McCollum, Charleston, S.C. Also surviving are a sister: Doris Jean Ferrari, San Antonio, Texas; six nieces; two nephews; and five great-grandchildren.

Kathryn taught school in Cromwell, and served as a truant officer in Noble County for more than 20 years. She also owned and operated Juday Electric in Cromwell with her husband Harold until 1986 and was a resident of the Lake Wawasee community for more than 50 years.

Kathryn remained active in her retirement years, becoming a fixture of civic life in the Lake Wawasee and Cromwell communities, visiting her large extended family, and traveling extensively, both domestically and abroad.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cromwell, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kathryn’s life.

A private internment for the family will follow the reception at the Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation, the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Navy/Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots campaign and Heifer International or a charity of the donor’s choice. The Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier is assisting the family with arrangements.
