Verl E. Hoagland, 93, North Manchester, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Peabody Retirement Community, in North Manchester.
Verl was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Wabash County, to Roy and Marie (Baker) Hoagland, both deceased.
On Jan. 11, 1942, he married Virginia Fretz, and she survives. He retired as a machinist from General Dynamics, San Diego, Calif. Served in the US Navy aboard the USS Sarasota from 1944-1945. Life member of the VFW Post #2215
Verl is survived by his wife: Virginia; one daughter: Lois (John) Rodgers, Anaheim, Calif.; brother: J.R. Hoagland, Warsaw; sisters: Evon (Marvin) Czpansky, Rolling Prairie; Adelaid (Richard) Swanson, Atwood; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents; son: Roy Hoagland, who died in 2009; and four brothers.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, July 6, at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. after calling hours, also at the mortuary, and will be officiated by Rev. Sue Babovec. Burial will be at South Pleasant Cemetery, Silver Lake.
