The Exciting Fourth of July Week
The Syracuse Library is closing in observance of Independence Day activities. However, for families that are looking for activities for guests during the week there are daily programs for children, and Teens have a snack party at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, to share superhero movie trailers.
Children can come in from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 29, when Echo the dog will give out Dairy Queen coupons to the children that read to her. Tuesday, June 30, is fun superhero games at 2 p.m. On Tuesday’s weather permitting we will play outside and children should be ready to get wet.
Every Wednesday children can come in and read to a reading volunteer and this Wednesday, July 1, they will give away a special award for a reading session. The superhero teatime is at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2 is a cake munching time.
Children will make their own superhero cape and mask. The film at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, is a showing of penguins that join with an elite spy team to save the world from a scheming scientist.
Friends Library Concert
The open space that is new to the library worked well for the concert that was part of the Friends fundraising event on Friday, June 19. The natural acoustics enhanced the already vibrant sounds of the guitars and vocals of Scott and Terry while the audience lounged about the room. The library thanks the Friends for sponsoring this outstanding program.
The Friends of the Syracuse Library is an organization that helps the library with funding and volunteer support for special events or items that the library needs. Friends groups are present in many communities across the nation, but each group operates independently. Joining the Friends means that the group has membership money to give for library events.
Joining means that members get to have input about special projects and receive emails that notify them of upcoming events with details about activities at the library. Joining the Friends organization self-selects individuals who are more interested in the workings in the library.
