Newsletter is Available through Email

The Syracuse Library is offering the option of receiving the monthly newsletter through email. Pulling up the happenings at the library just got easier for mobile device users. Katie Graham, editor of the monthly newsletter, will release July’s newsletter to the people that respond to an email request to receive the newsletters in the future.

The Week in Perspective

Children have fallen in love with Echo the dog. Read to her from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, June 22, for a Pizza Hut coupon. An invitation is extended to have juice and cookies with Syracuse’s fire chief and some of his crew at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23. Children can improve their reading skills by reading to our reading volunteers on Wednesday, June 24. The Dewart Lake Community Church’s youth group tells super hero stories at Thursday’s Tea Time at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25. On Friday, June 26, the library shows a movie about a spongey guy defeating a super villain. Friday’s movies start at 10:30 a.m. and feature free popcorn.

Teens create a hero by practicing archery like in the Hunger Games. The Kosciusko 4-H shooting sports are bringing instructors and all that is needed to practice archery. The program begins at 2 p.m. at the Community Center. Adult volunteers would be appreciated for this event. Gary Dant, head of the program, would like each two or three young people to have supervision.

Try Fish Sticks and Custard

Fans of the Doctor Who series will get to experience fish sticks and custard on the Wednesday, June 24 meeting. Meet the Doctor in Season five. The group will view some selected episodes and practice not blinking. The Wednesday meeting is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for any fans of British television.

Fun Book Clubs

The adult book club, One Book, One Hour, is reading “Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch” at July’s meeting. Your husband doesn’t have to run off with a stripper for this book to be a relatable read. Copies of the book are available through Evergreen and by calling the library at (574) 457-3022.

Dysfunctional, the book club examining Florida’s authors, is looking at the career of satirist turned novelist, Dave Barry. The July book club will talk about the adult fictions, “Insane City” and “Lunatics.” Extra copies of the books are available at the library.
