Alvin R. “Al” Miller, age 82, of Nappanee, died peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his family at 1:53 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015. He was born April 29, 1933, to Ray J. and Edna (Miller) Miller in Nappanee where he lived his lifetime. On Aug. 13, 1960, he married Lydia Diener at North Main Street Mennonite Church in Nappanee.

Mr. Miller began working at Supersweet on Jackson Street in Nappanee at the age of 16 and retired from there in 2009. He was a member of North Main Street Mennonite Church for many years. Al humbly lived out his faith in Jesus Christ throughout his lifetime. He was a very kindhearted, generous, and honest man and was known for his sense of humor. Mr. Miller served for 2 years in Alternative Service as an orderly in an Indianapolis Hospital. Al enjoyed spending time with his family and attending sporting events. He was a collector of many things.

Surviving is his wife: Lydia; children: Connie (Dale) Prochno, Nappanee; Greg (Natalie) Miller, Granger; Joanne (Mark) Green, Columbia City; grandchildren: Christina Prochno; D.J. (Jessica) Prochno; Matthew Prochno; Joelle Prochno; Taylor Miller; Sydney Miller; Tyler Green; sisters: Wilma Mast, Middlebury; Ada Lambright, Ill.; brother: Melvin (Gertie) Miller, Nappanee; and may stepsiblings. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 22, at North Main Street Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at South Union Cemetery. Rev. Ruben Chupp will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to North Main Street Mennonite Church “Change for a Dollar” fund.
